Patient Acceptability

Nearly 6,000 menopausal women participated in a trial for Femring®. Each woman was given a placebo (no hormone in the ring) vaginal ring, and was instructed by her doctor to keep it in place for five days. Keep reading for some interesting information on how women reacted to wearing a placebo vaginal ring.

Women demonstrated very high acceptability and ease of use with a placebo vaginal ring*:

Insertion and Removal
Of 5,150 women who self-inserted
>> 86.2% found insertion very/somewhat easy
>> 83.8% found removal very/somewhat easy

Awareness
Of 5,831 women surveyed

Sexual Intercourse
Of 1,660 women who had sex with the ring in place
>> 92.8% reported no interference with sexual activities

*Reference: The Ring Trial. Data on file, Warner Chilcott (US), Inc. The Ring Trial was conducted in 2002 using placebo rings (no active hormone) to determine acceptability, ease of use, and overall satisfaction with a vaginal ring delivery system. All of the 5,768 women who completed the trial were postmenopausal (no period for at least 12 months); some were users and some were nonusers of hormone replacement therapy.
